Massachusetts funeral and cemetery prices, as posted
Massachusetts funeral prices are not one number. A general price list (GPL) is the funeral home’s itemized menu. A cemetery rate sheet is a different document. Crematory and medical-examiner charges may sit on a third bill.
Arrangement File is a posted-fee desk for Massachusetts. When a primary source prints a line item, the file can show that amount with the source and the effective or retrieved date. When the source does not print that item — or the only copy on hand is not usable — the row is blank. Blank is a finding. It is not zero, and it is not an Arrangement File guess.
As of October 2026, the Massachusetts master lists 533 facilities (464 funeral homes and 69 cemeteries) in 216 communities across 14 counties. It holds 808 posted prices from 92 of those facilities (48 funeral homes and 44 cemeteries). The rest are on file without posted amounts yet, so their rows stay blank. That is a coverage signal, not a claim that every home or every fee in the Commonwealth is present.
What “posted” means here
“Posted” means a figure printed on a facility-hosted GPL, a municipal or cemetery rate sheet, or another primary schedule we can attribute to that place. Phone quotes, package ads, and statewide averages are not posted fees in this desk.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Funeral Rule requires funeral providers to give consumers a general price list and to itemize specified goods and services. Read the rule from the FTC, not from us: Complying with the Funeral Rule. Massachusetts consumer notes are on Mass.gov.
Funeral home prices and cemetery fees are usually two files
A GPL can list basic services, transfer, embalming, facilities, vehicles, direct cremation, and immediate burial. It usually does not set the grave price or the opening-and-closing charge. Those live on the cemetery’s own schedule. If you only compare funeral-home rows, you are not looking at the burial total.
What families usually look up first
- Direct cremation, and whether the printed price includes the crematory and the medical-examiner review
- Basic services of funeral director and staff
- Immediate burial
- Cemetery lot or niche, plus weekday vs Saturday opening
- Cash-advance items the home buys from someone else
Use a regional page when you want facilities in one part of the state.
Regions on file
Start with the area you are actually arranging in. Coverage is uneven. A quiet town with no usable source will show blanks or will not have a public hub yet.
Separate funeral-home and cemetery list hubs are not public pages yet. Cemetery fees explains the second bill.
What this page does not tell you
- A statewide average funeral cost
- Which home to call
- A guaranteed out-the-door total
- Legal, medical, or arrangement advice
How to use Arrangement File
Open the Massachusetts file, read the source date on any row you rely on, and treat blanks as work still to do with the facility. Families use a 30-day Pass ($29) to review posted fees and comparison tools. Organizations use seats.
FAQ
Does Arrangement File recommend a funeral home?
No.Why is a price blank?
The facility did not post that item on the source we have, the source was not usable, or the item does not apply. See the FAQ.
