Cemetery fees
Cemetery fees in Massachusetts
A funeral-home GPL rarely finishes a burial. The cemetery sells the space and charges to open and close it. Many also charge for foundations, marker setting, Saturday or holiday time, winter work, and urn or niche openings.
Municipal sheets are often public. Examples of the kind of lines you will see (these are town documents, not Arrangement File prices): weekday vs weekend opening, resident vs non-resident lots, cremation openings priced below full-casket openings, extra for arrivals after a cutoff. Always read the town or cemetery page that issued the figure.
Common lines
- Lot, grave, crypt, or niche purchase
- Perpetual or annual care, if listed separately
- Opening and closing (interment)
- Saturday, Sunday, holiday, after-hours
- Winter differential
- Urn burial or second urn in the same grave
- Foundation / marker setting
- Disinterment
What this does / does not tell you
This topic explains the second bill. It does not say which cemetery to use. It does not treat a funeral-home cash-advance “cemetery charge” as the cemetery’s own tariff.
The statewide file is the Massachusetts prices hub. A separate cemeteries list hub is not a public page yet.
